Journalist Gilgandra Weekly and Warren Star 

The Gilgandra Weekly and Warren Star are seeking a passionate, motivated journalist to join our team in a full-time, shared role across both publications and locations. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of two vibrant regional communities, delivering high-quality news across both print and online platforms. You’ll be responsible for producing compelling, accurate, and engaging content for both newspapers and their digital channels. 

Working across Gilgandra and Warren, you’ll cover a wide variety of local news, community events, council and court reporting, human interest stories, sports, and business news. 

 Key Duties: 

 - Researching, writing, and editing news stories for print and online 

- Sourcing story leads and conducting interviews 

 - Attending events, council meetings, and community activities 

 - Taking photographs and basic video to accompany articles

 - Managing digital content including website updates and social media posting 

 - Meeting deadlines and working to a production schedule 

 - Upholding the highest journalistic ethics and standards 

 About You: 

- A degree in journalism or a related field (or equivalent experience)

 - Strong writing, interviewing, and editing skills 

 - A passion for local news and community storytelling

- Good organisational and time management skills 

 - Ability to work independently and as part of a small team 

 - Basic photography and social media skills 

 - Current driver’s license and own reliable vehicle (travel between locations required) 

 Salary will be based on the Journalists Published Media Award (Level 1 or 2), depending on experience. Part-time and/or full-time considered.
