Job Opportunity: Regional Journalist (Print and Digital)

Based in Gilgandra, covering Gilgandra and Warren, NSW

Full-time/part-time considered - Salary based on experience.

Gilgandra Newspapers is seeking a passionate and versatile Journalist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to cover two of the region’s most vibrant communities - Gilgandra and Warren. We are looking for someone who understands that regional news is about more than just reporting facts; it’s about connecting with people, and celebrating local achievements.

Reporting to the Editor/Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing and creating content for our weekly print edition and our growing digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Source and write engaging news, sport, and feature stories.

Capture high-quality photography to accompany articles.

Digital: Upload news to our website and manage social media engagement.

Build relationships with community groups, local government, police, and business owners in both towns.

Travel: Regular travel between Gilgandra and Warren is required.

Whether you are a recent graduate looking to build a diverse portfolio or an experienced reporter seeking a change, we want to hear from you.

Essential Criteria:

Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Media, or Communications (or equivalent industry experience).

Strong news writing and editing skills with excellent attention to detail.

A valid Driver’s License and your own reliable vehicle (Essential).

Ability to meet strict weekly and daily deadlines.

Proficiency in photography.

A genuine interest in rural issues, agriculture, and community affairs.

Desirable Skills:

Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) for web publishing.
