DEATH OF MR BOB WOODS, QUEANBEYAN

The death has occurred in Queanbeyan after a long illness of Mr Robert (Bob) Woods, a former manager of The Queanbeyan Age. He was aged 71.

He was the elder son of the legendary Jim Woods and the late Mrs Rene Woods, for decades associated with the newspapers at Crookwell and Queanbeyan.

Bob, who was born in Temora,  had spent all his life in the newspaper industry with his father and younger brother, Ken, firstly at  Crookwell as publishers of The Crookwell Gazette.

The Woods family moved to Queanbeyan in 1957 where Jim became a partner in and manager of The Queanbeyan Age with the Bradley and Shakespeare families.

Bob worked in the advertising and photography departments before moving to management in the early 1990s, with Rural Press Limited acquiring full ownership in 1994. Brother Ken ran the commercial printing business.

Following retirement, Bob helped his father in the operation of the Queanbeyan Printing Museum and played pennant golf in the ACT zone.

As well as his father and brother, he is survived by his wife, Maureen, and four sons.

His funeral service will be held in the Anglican Church, Queanbeyan, on Wednesday, December 14, beginning at noon.
