Welcome to the new look CPNSW Members Bulletin. From this month onwards, the bulletin will be in online format and will arrive via e-mail each month.
The Singleton Argus was presented with the 2010 EC Sommerlad Memorial Award for Editorial Leadership and Community Involvement at a luncheon ceremony in Singleton on April 5.
The presentation was made to editor Di Sneddon by Country Press NSW president Garry Baker, who travelled from Deniliquin to host the luncheon.
Guest speakers included Singleton Mayor Cr Sue Moore, recently re-elected member for Upper House George Souris, local health campaigner Dr John Drinan and Fairfax regional manager Peter Dehnert.
All speakers were high in their praise for the contribution made by The Argus to its region, and emphasised the important contribution a strong, vibrant newspaper can make to its community.
Other special guests included Fairfax Australia Regional Media chief executive Allan Browne, former CP NSW executive officer David Sommerlad, Commanding Officer of Singleton's Lone Pine Infantry Base Lieut-Colonel Andrew Lowe and former Singleton Argus managing editor Ray Robinson.
Mr Sommerlad said the function was a great success and wished to thank everyone for their efforts and first-class organisation of the event.
"It was the best such function I have been to in recent memory - if not long memory - in that it was quality from beginning to end," Mr Sommerlad said.
"The venue was perfect; the food and service excellent; all the speeches were absolutely appropriate and sincere; the mood of the gathering was supportive, appreciative and friendly; Garry did a superlative job as chairman and president; and the whole show was a great credit to Country Press as well as to the newspaper.
"It was as perfect a presentation as we could ever hope for.
"It was a real celebration – not just of quality journalism but of community spirit and appreciation of the editor and staff of the publication. The purpose of such a gathering was completely understood and fulfilled."

Country Press Australia met with the Alliance on 8 april and a survey of members was undertaken in the week ending 15 April 2011. A further meeting with the Alliance will take place on 20 April 2011.
In a 180° turnaround the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) has stated that award or agreement-based annual leave loading is to be paid on lumpsum annual leave payments on termination: regardless of whether the award or agreement provides to the contrary.
