Country Press congratulates Jimmy Woods on his latest award. He is the doyen of our industry and it is wonderful that his local community still remembers and acknowledges his significant contribution to the growth and welfare of his beloved Queanbeyan.
Jim Woods, now aged 100, has been awarded the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Queanbeyan Business Excellence Awards for his role in editing and developing the Queanbeyan Age, 1958 to 1994, and his involvement in the Queanbeyan Printing Museum, the Queanbeyan Sporting Gallery and other community groups (Georgina Connery, "Woods recognised for community work", Canberra Chronicle, 28 October 2014, p.9).
Jim Woods made a significant contribution to the growth of Australia’s Capital Territory and used his Queanbeyan Age” as a conduit to enhance the development of Queanbeyan along with Canberra City itself.
Jim was a loyal and constructive participant within the New South Wales Country Press Association for decades and is warmly remembered by the older generation of today’s membership which happily shares with others in congratulating him on his latest award.
